Perfume Houses
The Haute Parfumerie is the only place in the world where you can find fragrances from some of the most prestigious perfume houses all under one roof.
Roja wrote a wish list of fragrance houses that he believed made wonderful things, then another list of every individual perfume or presentation he wanted. The criteria was simple, each was as perfect an example of its type as possible, made with exquisite materials.
The perfume houses available represent this wish.
Acqua di Genoa
Since its creation by Genoese distiller and parfumeur Stefano Frecceri for the Royal House of Savoia in 1853, Acqua di Genova has been made by the same family, according to the same recipe for over 150 years. Even the original handmade bottles with traditional ‘poire’ attachment have remained. Fresh and clean, with citrusy top notes of lemon, bergamot and sweet orange, it is given depth and staying power with rose, neroli and a base of wood. Recently revived by the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie, Acqua di Genova is the perfect summer cologne for both men and women.
Amouage Gold
Amouage has a rich, 2000 year old Arabian heritage, yet is still largely unknown to the fragrance world. Created at the behest of a member of the Omani Royal Family, the original Amouage perfume was carried on the Concorde and has always been a perfume identified with the ‘jet-set’. The fragrance itself is a cornucopia of exotic flowers, woods and spices, some of them found only in the remotest regions of Amouage’s Arabian homeland, the Sultanate of Oman. Celebrated French Parfumeur Guy Robert called Amouage “my symphony, the ultimate creation of my career” and every bottle is individually hand-finished and certified.
Baccarat
Since the House of Baccarat was established in 1764, it has cast a heavy influence on the design world with its ingenious hand-crafted crystal creations. In 1998, Baccarat introduced Les Larmes Sacrées des Thèbes, a fragrant homage to the patrimony of Egypt. A captivating, exotic blend of radiant Egyptian cassie with pepper flower, pink pepper and voluptuous flowers from the land of the Pharoahs – jasmine, geranium and rose on a base of wood notes and sacred balsams. Les Larmes Sacrées des Thèbes also contains frankincense and myrrh – used in the first fragrance formula created for Tutankhamen – Kyphi. The highly original pyramid-shaped crystal bottle was designed by Federico Restrepo and has been feted as a future collector’s piece.
Bois
Founded by Guido Galardi in 1920, Bois was born from his passion for the art of perfume-making. Guido began by collecting the lavanda officinalis that ripens on the hills around Florence. Researching essential oils, fragrant solutions and perfume sachets, Guido dreamt of opening a shop in Florence but his aspirations were not realised. In 1985 Guido’s grandson Enzo turned his passion for fragrance into a profession. Interpreting his grandfather’s original formulas, Enzo breathed life and soul into Guido’s work with the creation of Bois 1920, a collection of eight highly refined and complex fragrances that are now sold exclusively in the Roja Dove Parfumerie.
Caron
Caron is one of the grandest perfume houses, founded in 1904 by Ernest Daltroff who experimented freely with potent natural “absolutes” and revolutionary synthetics to expand the palette of olfactory nuances available. Inspired by the impressionist movement in painting, Daltroff helped usher in a new era in which fragrance was designed to create an emotional impression, not simply copy nature. N’aimez que moi became a symbolic gift to the wives and fiancées of French soldiers departing for the trenches. Tabac Blond celebrated the newly fashionable practice among women for smoking cigarettes. Alpona, En Avion and French Can Can are also among the Caron fragrances available from traditional Fragrance fountains in the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie.
Christian Dior
Christian Dior is one of the most recognised names in fashion and still influences the catwalks and designers of today. In 1947 the full skirts and pinched waists of his wildly extravagant ‘New Look’ collection was in contrast to the post war austerity and hardship, sparking a fashion revolution. Although few could afford his clothes, the luxury of Dior haute couture was soon bottled and sold in the form of the ‘Miss Dior’ fragrance. From 1956 Edmond Roudnitska created several Dior fragrances including Diorissimo and Eau Sauvage. Diorling and Diorama are two of his fragrances that are available exclusively from the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie.
Clive Christian
British designer Clive Christian has an uncompromising creative talent; whether crafting luxury furniture or developing exquisite perfumes, he strives for absolute quality and elegance. ‘Only deal with people and things you love; handle them with care and passion, and the result will be without compare.’ Created without cost constraints, No1 is the fragrance of ultimate opulence. Originally created in the year of its name, 1872 has been re-worked using the rarest ingredients from around the world. X combines natural ingredients in a new, multi-faceted way. Luxury is paramount to Clive Christian Perfume, embodied by Imperial Majesty which holds the Guinness World Record for the Most Expensive Perfume.
Creed
The House of Creed was founded in 1760 when James Henry Creed opened his first shop in London. It became a favourite of Queen Victoria and was soon adopted by all the courts of Europe. In 1854, under the patronage of Empress Eugenie, Creed moved to Paris where it has remained; a discreet, family-owned perfume house, dedicated to the creation of extravagant fragrances. Today Olivier Creed continues the family tradition as “Créateur Parfumeur” using the purest rose essences from Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco, the finest Italian jasmine, irises from Florence, tuberoses from India, and genuine Parma violets. Over the years, Creed has also produced fragrances for their wealthiest customers, preserved in their Paris boutique under the title “Private Collection”. A selection of these fragrances is available exclusively in the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie.
Diptyque
In 1961 Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Gautrot and Yves Coueslant opened a shop in Paris selling furnishing, fabrics and scented products for the home. Diptyque creations stemmed from memories of their travels throughout the Mediterranean and the Near East. Diptyque craftsmen blend the wax with rare natural essences to ensure that each candle releases the perfect amount of scent for as many as 60 hours of burning. In a world exclusive, the complete collection of Diptyque candles is on display at the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie, grouped according to families as they would be on the 'perfume organ' (the parfumeur's work space) to help clients better understand the construction of a fragrance.
FRAZERPARFUM
Tammy Frazer is rewriting the literature of luxury scent with her exquisite range of handmade natural perfumes. The 30-year old Cape Town-based olfaction expert has established herself as South Africa’s leading bespoke perfumer, with a fast-growing resume of distinguished clients spanning the globe.
Presented in hand blown bottles (the female fragrances in 22ml flacons, and the male cologne in a 50ml pebble) crafted by South African glass artist David Reade, and swathed in silk couture bags by leading Cape Town designers KLûK & CGDT, each liquid extract FRAZERPARFUM is handmade by Miss Frazer, in a style evocative of traditional eighteenth century perfumery. The perfumes contain only the highest percentage of perfumed concentrate diluted in organic cane sugar molasses alcohol. In simple terms – the fragrances are intense, developing over time, and provocative, while being kind to skin and to the environment.
Each scent is translated into a ‘chapter’ composed at a particular time in her life inspired by her expeditions travelling to the source of the raw materials. Letterpress-printed cards packaged with each fragrance provide transparency on the provenance and nature of each concentrate, while each raw material is sourced based on the quality of farming, harvesting and distillation.
Chapter One
Inspired by time spent in India, contains top notes of Indian cassia bark (the Saigon cinnamon variety) and Indonesian nutmeg seeds (aged for 20 years); heart notes of Egyptian and Indian Jasmine flowers, and base notes of Indian sandalwood (aged for 80 years) and Madagascan bourbon vanilla (the cured seedpods are hand-pollinated, hand-picked and harvested daily).
Chapter Three
This is an African ‘floral wood’ composition containing Tunisian orange flower oil and steam distilled Arabica coffee.
Chapter Seven
This is her signature scent, a layered feminine ‘green floral’ composition of Bulgarian, Turkish and French rose and undulating tuberose.
Chapter Eight
This is a masculine quintessentially British ‘green wood’ composition containing oakmoss and violet leaf.
Guerlain
Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain established the house in Paris in 1828, and trained his son Aimé, who revolutionised the industry by creating Jicky in 1889. Aimé handed his knowledge onto nephew Jacques, who then trained his grandson Jean-Paul Guerlain, the current master parfumeur. Roja Dove is delighted to present classic Guerlain fragrances in the beautiful Bee Bottle. The Gold Bee Bottle was originally made to house Eau Imperiale, created for the Empress Eugenie and Napoleon III in 1853. The glass flacon was hand painted with a pure gold bee motif recalling the coat of arms of the imperial family. The delighted Empress ordered that Guerlain be awarded the title of "Appointed Supplier of Her Majesty". Shalimar is also available in the original 1925 bottle which won the design prize at the first ever Decorative Art fair, from which was coined the term Art Deco.
Hermes
In 1837, Thierry Hermès, harness-maker, set up in Paris. His son transferred the family business to the now famous address of 24 Faubourg Saint- Honoré and extended his business to include saddlery. With the arrival of the automobile, Thierry’s grandson Emile Hermès launched a line of fine leather goods and luggage with “saddle stitching” and thus, Hermès style was born. Today, under the Hermès label the smoothness of leather, the softness of silk, the harmony of colour and the warmth of scented essences create a magical, multifaceted world in which materials are respected by the craftsman. Among the extensive collection at the Parfumerie are Calèche, the embodiment of femininity, Eau D'Hermès which combines the freshness of citrus with the warmth of spicy notes and the warm, enveloping Rouge Hermès.
Herve Leger
A fashion hit in the 1980s, French design house Herve Leger pioneered the body-con look and to this day is the epitome of exquisite fashion. Created for a glamorous and sophisticated woman, bands and tucks that closely wrap the body have become the signature of the collection. Jean-Charles Brosseau
Jean-Charles Brosseau first made his name designing hats and accessories for houses such as Hermes, Kenzo and Sonia Rykiel. After launching his own signature brand of accessories, the progression into fragrance was natural. A chance encounter brought him face to face with the fragrance that was to become Ombre Rose; a feminine and sensual floral with notes of honey, peach, vanilla and musk. First launched in 1981 it was an instant sell-out. Women fell in love with this great classic, an enduring, elegantly ‘French’ scent dressed in a timeless bottle. Jean Patou
When couturier Jean Patou entered the world of fragrance in 1925, simplicity, quality and innovation were integral to his work. His perfume flacons are still made of cut glass; polished, decorated with gold leaf and hand filled drop by drop. The jasmine and rose de mai come from private fields of Grasse, to ensure that the fragrances remain as they were more than 70 years ago. His most famous fragrance was created after the 1929 Wall Street crash as a gift to the affluent American clientele who could no longer visit him in Paris. Jean Patou wanted an extraordinary fragrance with the most precious raw materials, and thus was born JOY, the ‘costliest fragrance in the world’. Also at the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie is 1000, named after the thousand blends discarded before the perfect floral symphony was found.

With the launch of ‘Eau Vivifiante’, Lubin won the favour of the Imperial Court, creating fragrances for Empress Josephine, Pauline Bonaparte, Princess Borghese, the last Queen of France Marie-Amelie and the Russian Tsar Alexander the 1st. The first parfumeur to conquer the New World in 1830, Lubin’s impressionist fragrances drew inspiration from faraway countries and were famous the world over. When he created Coeur Joie, Robert dreamt of a poetic flacon for the glorious, light-hearted scent, designed to celebrate freedom and gaiety following the end of the war. His friend Marc Lalique made a satin-finish crystal heart adorned with flowers to match the sweet floral bouquet of the fragrance itself. Ever since, Nina Ricci flacons have been masterpieces in crystal, imbued with the luminosity that characterize the spirit of Paris and Nina Ricci. Baghari was his final fragrance and is a sparkling floral bouquet blended with powdery amber and natural vanilla.

Rochas
Marcel Rochas opened his couture house in Paris in 1925 and contributed to many contemporary trends. He also strongly believed in the connection between couture fashion and fragrance, ‘One must sense a woman before one even sees her. If I don’t know her, I imagine her. If I do know her, it is a pleasant prelude.’ Following the liberation of Paris, Rochas worked with parfumeur Edmund Roudnitska to create a wedding present for his wife. A ‘mille feuilles’ perfume of prunes, pastry and roses, the curvaceous bottle was inspired by Mae West’s hips. Despite only being available by subscription due to wartime rationing, Femme was an instant success. Also available at the Haute Parfumerie is Madame Rochas.
Roja Dove
The Roja Dove Trilogy was crafted by Roja with the same passion, artistic flair and love as his bespoke fragrances. Three fragrances to celebrate the true art of perfume mastery, each was created as they would have been in the golden age of fragrance; with no financial compromise, and no marketing brief. The result is a complex and luxurious fragrance from each of the classic fragrance families: Scandal (a sumptuous floral), Unspoken (a smouldering chypré) and Enslaved (a soft, sensual oriental). “These are fragrances as precious as the great masterpieces once were; natural, complex, luxurious, but truly modern, interpreting as they do, the desire for real quality, real artistry, and real individuality.” Roja Dove.
Stephen Burlingham
Stephen Burlingham, great-great-grandson of Charles. L. Tiffany, the founder of Tiffany & Co. is a creative renowned for his work designing jewellery for Cartier, fabrics and wallpaper for Brunschwig et Fils and precious metal accessories for Tiffany & Co. Following two years working on a well-known fragrance, Stephen teamed up with Patrick de Givenchy to develop ‘Truly’, an exquisite green floral chypre with the freshness of a spring day. In a contemporary reworking of the ‘Tiffany’ design tradition, the flacon is an emerald green hand-blown curved glass bottle signed and numbered by Burlingham himself. ‘Truly’ marks the start of a series – with ‘Madly’ and ‘Deeply’ to follow.
Founded by Diego Della Valle, Luca Di Montezemolo and Paolo Borgomanero, the men responsible for the revival of Acqua di Parma, The Party is a ravishing, fruity chypre that Roja Dove has called ‘one of the most beautiful jewels to come into the Parfumerie industry in decades.’ Rich and opulent, it looks and smells just as you would imagine a fabulously wealthy guest at a 1950s cocktail party in Manhattan. A scent of distinction. Since 1893, when it was founded by a French doctor, Téo Cabanel has dedicated itself to creating colognes and quintessences. Téo Cabanel perfumes were renowned in the best society and were adopted by the Duchess of Windsor as her favourite perfumes. Today, Téo Cabanel introduces its clients to the sophistication of original scents stemming from the true French perfume tradition. Only 100% pure natural ingredients go into its creations to make you discover the refinement of exceptional perfume crafmanship.< With the new fragrance collection Private Blend, Tom Ford has launched with twelve unisex fragrances packaged in a single bottle design. Private Blend delivers highly original accords of the most fascinating notes in a parfumer's lexicon. The first twelve fragrances to be released begin with a precious extraction of a single note, such as Amber, Tobacco, Black Violet, Leather, Gardenia, and Oud Wood. Then secondary ingredients are wrapped around each note to create a completely developed and complex eau de parfum. The result is a series of intriguing, sophisticated scents that may enchant or challenge, stimulate or delight. The opposite of one size fits all fragrances, Private Blend allows the wearer to discover the fragrances that suit their personality and moods, and, over time, to become the curator of their own individualised fragrance collection. True to Tom Ford's vision of fragrance, The Private Blend Scents are not categorised as masculine or feminine.< Fine fragrance is never just about the smell. Done well, it is a marriage of substance and the sublime, perfectly executed by fragrance house Xerjoff with their philosophy that you cannot separate perfume from art. The two fragrances (male and female) were born of pure creative freedom to experiment without financial or commercial constraints. However, it is in the flacons that creators Sergio Momo and Dominique Salvo have excelled. Carved from single blocks of natural African quartz, each bottle stands on a base made from African ebony and is individually numbered and guaranteed. Equally beautiful are the limited edition Murano Art of Venice bottles which bear a leitmotif of gold leaf, melted into the glass.
